Matcha recommended for:

  • Koicha (strong thick tea)
  • Usucha (traditional Matcha tea)
  • Cold Brew Matcha

YUKIRO is our finest Ceremonial Grade Uji Matcha.

Produced in small batches from young and tender leaves that lack of any astringent flavours, YUKIRO brews a gentle and sweet liquor that slowly unveils a surprising complexity: initial fresh notes of young peas and green sprouts give way to a nutty and savoury profile with a lasting Umami finish.

We are proud to be offering this delicious artisanal Matcha blended in collaboration with Mr. Morita Haruhide - a highly respected Kyoto Tea Master and Blender that has been awarded countless titles and appraisals, including a 9th level Tea Master dan that is held by only a handful of Japanese.

We suggest brewing our YUKIRO with a ratio of 2g Matcha to 60ml of water for a rich and intense brew that fully expresses the subtle and complex flavours of this Matcha.

We tested the L-Theanine levels of this Matcha, which shows an outstanding count of 26.7 mg/g (6x higher than average commercial-grade Matcha). Tested by APAF Australian Proteome Analysis Facility at Macquarie University.

  • Flavour profile: Sweet and balanced, with floral, nutty and savoury undertones and a long Umami finish.
  • Harvest & Growth: 1st harvest (spring) / shade-grown for 30 days / hand-picked
  • Origin: Grown and stone-milled in Uji, Kyoto.

*Packaging info: our Biophotonic Glass jar makes a great reusable, airtight, light-proof and eco-friendly container to store our Matcha. Once your initial 30g batch runs out, simply purchase our 30g Refill Bags to top up your jar (read more about the light-blocking properties of this jar below).

Storage: Seal package immediately after use and store in a cool dry place, away from sunlight, moisture, and strong odours.

Preparing this Matcha using our Chasen Bamboo Whisk would allow optimal aeration and mixing of the powder, creating a smoother and creamier brew.

For more specifications on all our grades please refer to our Grades Chart.

Packaging: Biophotonic glass, also known as Miron or Violet glass, is a type of deeply coloured, almost opaque glass that naturally filters the spectrum of visible sunlight, only allowing through Infra-Red and UVA light, or ‘violet’ light. Because of its natural ability to block light, Biophotonic glass protects precious contents from perishing in sunlight, increasing their shelf life and effectiveness.

The best matcha I have ever had!

The taste, the smell and especially the color very surprised me. I could drink it every day.

              Yukiro Ceremonial Matcha

I originally bought three types matcha from Zen Wonders. Culinary, Ceremonial, and Pinnacle Matcha. I started with the Culinary Grade, KOHIKI. It’s perfect for matcha lattes and froths really nicely! When I finished Kohiki, I opened the Ceremonial Grade, YUKIRO. I can only compare the two so far. The YUKIRO is definitely a LOT better than KOHIKI; from its colour, to its consistency, its smell, and taste! I can drink YUKIRO by itself cause it tastes really smooth! I also make matcha latte with it occasionally. The only thing I noticed is that YUKIRO doesn’t seem to froth as much as KOHIKI did. But so far I am loving YUKIRO! So excited to try the Pinnacle Grade, YOHARA, once I’m done with YUKIRO :)

              Delicate Freshness

Upon opening, it presented with a deep matcha aroma. It wasn't until I had emulsified with water and whisk that you get a more fresh earthy grass scent to it. Upon sipping, you can definitely savour the freshness of the young picked leaves and it leaves a delicate bitter-sweet aftertaste that matcha lovers love. I would highly recommend.

              SUPERB Yukiro Matcha

After trying numerous samples across a range of Australian matcha retailers, Zen Wonders offer the best quality Yukiro matcha available. I've been drinking up to 4 bowls a day at times and the tea consistently produces a light, small bubble foam with an even light sweetness and a warm umame wash across the mouth. Couldn't recommend more. This is the quality to offer your friends when you introduce them to matcha. Get out your best bowls and bamboo whisk, take your time and savour each bowl. I've made various concentrations of tea from a thin tea to thick. Some other teas must be made relatively diluted due to some bitterness. Absolutely not the case with the current quality of Zen Wonders yukiro matcha. There is no bitterness whatsoever. To say it is superbly smooth and creamy with a blissful aroma is understating it. One suggestion I would make to Zen Wonders : if at all possible, the business should also develop a tourism arm that facilitates visitation to suppliers across the regions of Japan where this tea is made and processed. I've never been so connected to a food or beverage that I've wanted to have a deeper connection and understanding with it. I'll definitely be making a trip to Uji in the future to explore and connect with matcha growers. Don't hesitate to do business with Roberto. He clearly has a passion for the very best matcha available. Slurp away!
